Wave by Wave, Day by Day, Consistency is Key

Recently I have been enjoying the RAW pod cast with Marty Gallagher, JP Brice and Jim Steel. On a recent episode I listened to Marty mentioned that workouts need to be like waves on a beach, and Jim said "they just keep coming and coming". Jim is a fellow recovering Collegiate Strength & Conditioning coach a competitive power lifter and body builder and coach.

It takes consistent training, nutrition and recovery. This doesn’t mean you can never have any fun or eat anything bad but it does mean you will need to commit to consistent training, sleep and nutrition. The program you do is important and can set you up for success but a long term focus on consistency and discipline is most important. Long term consistency trumps short term Intensity. Do not rush the process, learn to enjoy it. Consistent effort and training is key. Find a short term goal for motivation but trust the long term process.

Waves on a beach over time create change, a big wave or storm one time can make a quick change but that would compare to high volume or intensity you are not prepared for and causing an injury. Allow the slow consistent pace of waves of workouts, sleep and nutrition to create the slow change.

Jim ans Marty have a new podcast I am excited to check out for nuggets of wisdom. Don’t wait for January 2nd to think you will totally change uuur world and crash and burn two weeks later. Start today, with something small, something simple like a walk. The slow steps like waves on the shore may not seem like much but over time could leave to significant change.
