Clint Eastwood, the iconic actor and filmmaker, played tough guys most of his career. In real life he embodies a unique “tough guy” psychological attitude towards aging and life. His mantra, “Don’t let the old man in,” speaks volumes about his approach to staying mentally and physically vibrant.
At 93, Eastwood remains an active force in Hollywood, proving that age is just a number when the mind and body is strong and determined. This quote reflects Eastwood's philosophy that aging is as much a mental challenge as it is a physical one. By refusing to succumb to the stereotypical limitations of old age, he continues to engage in creative projects and maintain his health. By keeping a youthful mindset, one can resist the feelings of fatigue and decline typically associated with getting older. Eastwood believes in staying active every day, both mentally and physically. Whether it's through work, hobbies, or physical activity, the goal is to keep moving forward. I believe challenging yourself physically and mentally is important. Strength training challenges the body physically allowing anyone to get stronger. It also helps the brain and can improve mood and outlook. A recent meta-analysis concludes that "Strength training benefits functional brain changes and increases cognitive function in both healthy or cognitively impaired adults and older adults." It can also decrease the chances of Alzheimer's disease. Setting goals are important to give you something to strive for. This should be both physically and mentally. Learning a new skill is also excellent for the brain. Strength training should be a part of every “Athlete of Aging’s” weekly routine to “Don’t let the old man in.”
