Strength Training For Life After 40
There’s a moment most people remember. It’s not dramatic. No ambulance. No MRI.It’s the day you tweak your back brushing your teeth…or struggle a little longer getting up off the floor…or realize your balance isn’t what it used to be. Nothing is “wrong.” But something is different.
"We have two lives, and the second begins when we realize we only have one." - Confucius
We get out of school, get a job, get married, have kids and build a life. Then week after week life happens and we look up and 15-20 years have gone by. The changes are slow and subtle so we don't notice the loss of strength, muscle mass and function until one day it hits us like a ton of bricks. In that moment we have a choice, we can continue to allow week after week to be come weak after weak or we can choose to join the resistance and make the most of this one life.
After 40, the rules change—but not in the way most people think. Your body isn’t “breaking down.” It’s responding to a lack of stimulus. Muscle, bone, and strength are use-it-or-lose-it systems.
Strength training after 40 isn’t about chasing PRs or looking like you did at 25. It’s about preserving options:
Getting up off the floor without thinking
Carrying softener salt or groceries with one trip
Living on your own in your own home to enjoy the life you built

I’ve coached adults in person at the
in Brookings from their 30s into their 80s. I also, coach people remotely from 25-84 years old. The ones who stay strong don’t rely on motivation—they rely on structure. They train progressively, safely, and consistently. It only requires two one hour sessions per week to improve your life and maximize the one life we are given. The Athletes of Aging that I coach do not live to lift they lift to live. That’s the real secret.

If you’re over 30 and wondering where to start, safe effective strength training can change everything. Reach out to MOE Strength 605-695-0496 and let’s build your foundation.
